In our NeuroCare division, we provide outpatient intensive care for people with damage to the central nervous system. This includes people in a so-called persistent vegetative state (PVS) or minimally conscious state (MCS), as well as people with other acquired brain injuries (e.g. severe traumatic brain injury).

The range of specialist care services for people in a persistent vegetative state (phase F) relates to care in non-clinical long-term rehabilitation, in accordance with the rehabilitation phase model A–F, for people with severe and very severe acquired damage to the central nervous system.

In order to meet the individual needs of our NeuroCare clients, we work according to a needs-oriented development model. Implementation is ensured through continuous specialist training and further education for our colleagues and ongoing support for the department by our NeuroCare specialist coordination team.

We also attach great importance to the integration of relatives, friends and acquaintances into the care process of our clients in non-clinical intensive care. We support the partial assumption of care by relatives and friends through professional advice. In addition to workshops and information events, we also offer joint excursions.

Another focus of care within the ZBI Group is specialist care for people with non-clinical ventilation (in cases of respiratory insufficiency). PSV ventilation is one of the treatment modes used here.

In addition to severe lung diseases, such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) with and without pulmonary emphysema, progressive degenerative diseases of the muscular and nervous systems, such as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) or muscular dystrophies, are also among the common causes of home ventilation/non-clinical ventilation. Furthermore, we are seeing more and more clients who require ventilation after a stroke or hypoxic brain damage (insufficient oxygen supply to the brain).

Our focus is on long-term pulmonary rehabilitation. Our care and therapy approaches noticeably improve our clients' quality of life. The aim is to gradually increase their participation in life. Our in-house respiratory therapists support the transdisciplinary team with their high level of expertise.

In order to treat our wound patients individually and with the utmost care, we have set up a specialised department for wound management. This department works on an interdisciplinary basis with all professions involved in wound care and wound healing. These are primarily nursing staff, clinics and doctors. Wound care at the ZBI is provided in accordance with the latest professional and scientific guidelines and expert standards.

Our range of services also includes the special challenge of treating chronic wounds, which require a high degree of coordination due to their complexity. We provide care and therapy for people with traumatic and chronic wounds, such as burns, leg ulcers (venous leg ulcers), post-operative wound healing disorders, diabetic foot syndrome and pressure ulcers.

The primary goal of the ZBI as a facility for long-term rehabilitation and outpatient intensive care is and remains the discharge of patients, if possible to their own homes. Unfortunately, in some cases, our clients' health impairments are irreversible and so severe that our care process focuses solely on alleviating symptoms and improving quality of life. In line with individual needs, palliative and curative care at the ZBI do not stand in each other's way, but are an equal part of the care measures and are tailored to the individual client. This includes measures in the area of so-called AAPV (general outpatient palliative intensive care) and SAPV (special outpatient palliative care). In the case of SAPV, a specialised treatment team is deployed when general outpatient palliative care can no longer meet the needs of the clients.

All our clients receive exceptional care and support. Our specialists are highly trained in positioning concepts (e.g. LiN® positioning), secretion management measures, tracheostomy care and many other aspects of treatment care. However, in line with our philosophy, in addition to medical needs, the care we provide to our clients is primarily based on their individual personal wishes and needs. The core of all our efforts is and always will be the well-being of our clients. That is why we offer a wide range of individual therapy options such as music therapy and aromatherapy. In addition to the more well-known forms of therapy such as speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy, we also offer respiratory and body therapy as well as alternative therapy methods.

All therapy services in our centres for non-clinical intensive care are provided in collaboration with a multi-professional team of therapists and experts from the individual specialist areas. In this way, we not only ensure individual support, but also the professional accuracy of all applications. In consultation with our nursing staff and relatives or carers, we focus on a holistic approach to therapy and care.
